Simpson Strong-Tie Co. Inc. began manufacturing structural wood connectors in 1956. Simpson Strong-Tie entered the anchoring business in 1994 with the introduction of the Epoxy-Tie ® ET dual cartridge epoxy system. At this time the ET product was being manufactured by Ackerman-Johnson Fastening Systems of Addison, Illinois, a respected anchor manufacturer since 1902. Simpson purchased Ackerman-Johnson in 1995.
The company's next acquisition in the anchor industry came in 1996 when Simpson Strong-Tie acquired Isometric Limited of Brampton, Canada, manufacturer of Dualbolt Fastening Systems. Isometric Ltd. began manufacturing mechanical anchors in 1972 and invented and patented the one-piece clip design found on most wedge anchors.
Since the two acquisitions, these companies have been assimilated into Simpson Strong-Tie Anchor Systems and their collective experience in product design, manufacture and testing utilized as a knowledge base upon which to guide Simpson's efforts. This knowledge base, Simpson's experience in the production and marketing of structural building components, and the addition of specialists from the anchor industry have made Simpson the fastest growing manufacturer in this industry in a relatively short time.
Since entering the anchor industry, the product line has been expanded to include four adhesive anchor formulations, two crack injection epoxy formulations, a vinylester glass capsule anchor, a full line of mechanical anchors, and carbide drill bits for masonry and concrete.
In addition to the two dedicated anchor manufacturing facilities, Simpson Strong-Tie Anchor Systems now serves the construction industry with seven manufacturing and warehouse facilities throughout the United States and Canada. A national sales force of Technical Sales Representatives and Engineers is also available to assist with specification and jobsite issues. Product is distributed nationally through an extensive network of distributors and dealers.
